Chapter -3 India in Global Energy Scenario

Chapter -3 India in Global Energy Scenario
(Data corresponds to year 2013-2014)

3.1 Specific Terms Related to Statistics
Demand: It represents the requirement of society for a particular item.
Reserve: It measures the total amount of resource present in the country.
Production: It is the amount of an item actually produced. It may be more or less than the demand. Production is less than or equal to reserve resource. For example, coal reserve is more, but the production of coal is less than the available coal reserve.
Installed Capacity:  Sometimes, few amount of an item is consumed during the process of production. Thus the net production available for use is less than actual production. It happens during electricity generation. The electricity which is produced in a power house is also utilized in power house for production. Therefore fewer amounts are available for distribution. So, installed capacity is always less than the produced capacity.
Gross Availability: If production is less than the demand, the difference is compensated through purchasing from other party. This total availability i.e. home production and purchased amount is gross availability.
Consumption: It is the actual amount of an item consumed by the society. It may be less or more than the production. If consumption is more, it means the difference is supplied by any other mean. If consumption is less than the production, the rest of the amount is sold to third party.
